itunes error message when trying to restore a backup on my new iphone5

I recently purchased an iPhone 5. I have been attempting to restore my backup on my new phone and it allows me to to go through the whole process however once it gets to the end of the download an error message pops up stating "iTunes could not restore from backup because there was an error"**. My laptop has Windows 8. I have no idea how to fix this problem and I would love to be able to get my contacts and text messages back. If you have any tips or suggestions any and all help is much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!! 🙂
