yes.
A restore erases everything and does a fresh install of the ios.
You should be importing your pics to your computer regularly, most especially before any update or restore.
If you restore from backup and the backup was made when the photos were in your iPod's Camera Roll album they will be restored to the iPod.
If they were taken with the iPod then unless they were on the iPod when you last backed it up then you can't - there is no undelete or trashcan/recycle bin. If they were were on the iPod when you last backed up then you can try restoring to that back up, but you will need to restore the whole iPod, you can't just restore a single app.
If they were originally synced from your computer and weren't taken with the iPod, then you can just re-sync them.
Did you notice that the post is over a year old? I think the poster resolved the their concern by now. Most poster do not mark their post as solved.
