Mid 2011 iMac only reads Audio CDs

Hi, I've had my iMac for about 2 years now. All was great until a few months ago, when I started noticing that a few of my CD's were spit out by the superdrive. At first I simply ignored this however it has now become a major issue. The only disc readable by the mac is any type of audio CD. I have tried everything from using a optical lens cleaning CD to resetting my PRAM. I'm worried I may have to replace my optical drive which will cost a lot of money. If anybody has any solutions, it would go a long way,

Got the same problem - doesn't seem to be a solution. Getting rather disillusioned with Apple products, had to have the screen replaced when new - it's still not right, hard disk failed at two years old, now the cd/dvd drive only half works. It's pretty poor for a premium priced product.

Oh, and the slot drive scratches discs when ejecting - very, very poor show.

If you are noit worried about having an internal drive you could go with any external. That's what I use and a lot cheaper.

Got on the phone with Apple today just to realize my own fears. Seems like there is something wrong with the superdrive. I also found out that my warranty expired. I'm quite lost on what to do now.

Get an ext Firewire burner, if you can find one. If not, get an USB one. Usually available for under $100 USD.

Looks like I'm not the only one with this problem, been going over the forums and encountered so many peope with the same issue. Has Apple made any statement regarding this issue?
