Safari 5.1.9 on OS 10.6.8 doesn't work anymore.

Hi,

Everytime I open Safari 5.1.9 on OS 10.6.8, it litterally freezes my iMac for at least 10 minutes (can't even do Force Quit!) and then shuts.

I thought the Java for 10.6 update was going to solve the problem, but it didn't.

Anybody else has that problem? What's going on?

Thanks!

Chris.

The Software update version is bonked, the latest bug fix is here

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573

Pasting: java -version into Terminal and pressing Enter should reveal this after the update which fixes the bug.

java version "1.6.0_51"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_51-b11-457-10M4509)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.51-b01-457, mixed mode)

Here is what I've come up with so far. If I log in under a different account such as Guest, I can use Safari. Restoring the Library directory in my home directory, deleting files, etc. doesn't seem to work.

On a previous update, I experienced something similar, but with Mail instead of Safari. What I'm going to do is create another account and then move all my files over to it. That was what resolved my problem with the previous update.

Safari 5.1.9 on OS 10.6.8 doesn't work anymore.
