"reconnecting to mac" hung up

i'm trying to use migration assistant--transferring from my pc to a new macbook pro. (and i'm a mac newbie) My pc has a message "Reconnecting to Mac - attempting to reconnect to your mac" It's been hung for an hour. There's no access to anything on the mac, since it's running migration assistant (i can't check connection, etc.) There's no option on the pc menu other than to "Cancel transfer"

It's been transferring files all night. I hate to cancel now. Any suggestions?
