iPhoto 9.4.3 crashes when import requested

Whether from the keyboard: shift / command / i or from the pull down menu: File / Import to Library

iPhoto 9.4.3 crashes every time, before opening a window to allow a file to be selected for import.

For me this is a brand new fault. iPhoto has been running on this system for years without a problem. Immediately prior to this fault, I successfully imported photos from two cameras and from my desktop.

I've restarted the Mac that runs 10.7.5, restared iPhoto, but the same thing happens. I relaunched iPhoto and selected a different library and the same thing happens.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.5), seven months old

That narrows down the problem to you account. It could be a preference file so first try the following:

1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your

User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.

2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your

User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).

User uploaded file

or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
folder

User uploaded file

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.

NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

This morning I encoutered a "Wi-Fi: no hardware installed" message. In sorting this out I followed the directions for resetting the System Management Controller"on Mac portables with a battery you can remove" support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

Upon restart after the SMC reset: WiFi was active again... and iPhoto now executes the import command without crashing!

It appears that this solved my problem with iPhoto.
