Benq Display Not Connecting

I've been having problems with my new Benq display, it's a GW2750. The problem is my macbook pro (mid 2010) doesn't like it and will intermitantly stop working with the display. If it does work (at times it does) everything is fine, the mac sleeps and resumes normally. Until every now and then my mac goes to sleep and then suddenly will not recognize the display any more. When this happens my mac's screen will blink like it's detecting a monitor but the monitor itself will remain blank. When it decides to not detect it anymore I can not identify the steps taken to resolve the issue, it seems it starts to work when it feels like it.

Things I have tried,

• PRAM reset

• Other startup reset (control option shift power)

• Forcing discrete graphics (gfxCardStatus)

• Reboots

• Clean OSX install

• Different Montiors (all work)

• Different Cable (Same issue)

• Different Minidisplay port adapter (same issue)

• Not hitting the screen with a very large hammer out of pure frustration and rage

• Software Update (Up to date Mountain Lion)

I've tried contacting apple about this but I was told my hardware may be broken.

Is yours the MacBook Pro 6,2 ?? There is a recall for that model to have it evaluated for possible broken graphics.

Your MacBook Pro 6,2 is the subject or a recall to evaluate whether there is a fatal Hardware flaw in the graphics subsystem.

Take a printout of this article with you to hedge against the genius not being familiar with this program, and make a genius bar appointment. Do not leave until they have run the special VST test for this problem, which ends in a spectacular PASSED or FAILED screen. (The overnight bake test will NOT find this problem, they should run VST for you on the spot.)

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video

If the result is FAILED but the genius is hesitant to replace the mainboard, ask the store manager to intervene on your behalf. Be polite and business like.

Perfect, thanks a lot. I've just booked an appointment for Friday. 😁 If mine does fail will they just replace the main board (do they still have them)?

That repair is too complex to be done "on the spot". Depending on your Apple store, they can sometimes do such repairs overnight or in a few days, but sometimes they are too busy or short of skills or short of parts and will send it out for regional depot repair instead. Make backups before you go.
