MacBook Pro 17" compatibility with SSD Drive

Hi everyone

Please Help!!!! I have a MacBook Pro 6,1 Mid 2010 2.66 core i7 memory 8 gb. I want to put in a SSD hard drive the Samsung 840 Pro 256 gb

I have tried to research so much that I am more confused as to it compatibility I would just like a simple change out I am not a tech guru but having read so many different comments online about its works fine,it doesn't work ,os x firmware problems,trim problems,this that and the other etc.etc. is there anyone that has a 2010 model like mine that can tell me if the Samsung will work without having to go crazy trying to make it work. Because I have read that it is a great SSD but is it great for my MacBook model and year without having to hassle tweaks,changes,or problems because it not really the right drive for my MacBook .

Yes, it will work. Apple has even used that model in its own computers. But if you have doubts then go with the ones sold by OWC. Their 3G models would be a good fit for your computer.

TRIM is not required with these particular SSDs. If you buy a Samsung SSD stick to those versions that support 3.0 Gb/s interfaces because that is what you have in your computer. Don't bother with 6.0 Gb/s SSDs because you cannot get the speed of which they are capable.

Thx for the quick reply so at the moment I don't remember about the 840 pro but is it 3 or 6 but if it is 6 will it work ok or better to use something difference . And I will go check with OWC any recommendations on one of there drives. Thx

No 6.0 Gb/s SSD will work better than a 3.0 Gb/s model. The latter is all your computer supports.

I have used several of OWC's Mercury 3Gs in my computers. They are excellent. As fast or faster than any others in their class. I've used a couple of their 6G SSDs in a couple of computers I have that support the faster SSD models.

I've not used the Samsungs, but I have used OCZ Vertex 3s.

So in your opinion for my computer which do you think would be the better choice OWC OR OCZ, an thx for sharing your experience and the quick replays . I need you on speed dial when I do this project in case I run into a little trouble sounds like you done this a few times.

Frankly, they are all about the same from what I can tell. You can have me on speed dial if you want, but then I have to charge money.
