Hey everybody. Do you know if i can run os x server on macbook pro mid 2012 with i5 2.5 GH, 4Gb RAM and OS X 10.8.4?

I recently saw that for os x server apple says that you can run it on inexpensive hardware like mac pro, imac and mac mini. It doesn't say anything about notebooks. So if i buy os x server will i be able to run it on my macbook pro mid 2012 with i5 2.5 GH, 4 Gb RAM and 10.8.4?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

OS X Server is compatible with any Mac that runs OS X Mountain Lion, so you can install it on any MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro that supports Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs

Just open the App Store and purchase OS X Server. The app will appear after finishing the download, so follow its steps to set up OS X Server on your computer. You will be able to install it for free in all your computers after purchasing it. If you want more information about OS X Server, read > http://www.apple.com/osx/server/

It'll work.

You probably won't be very happy with the results, particularly if you start to use what OS X Server provides, as many of the network services offered by OS X Server assume the Mac has a static IP address, and laptops tend to wander around from network to network, and thus tend to use DHCP-assigned dynamic IP addresses.

OS X Server also expects to be up and running all the time, as otherwise it's not much good to other systems using its services.

As Simon Slavin asks, what are you considering here?

You sure can, I am running OSX Server on a 2010 17 inch Macbook Pro right now in my home. The nice thing is that with a "No-Sleep" app I can run it with the lid closed and have a very low power drawing server application to manage the Time Machine backups for the 6 Macs I have. Additionally I am using the caching and file sharing capabilities as well. I am using the 17 MacBook Pro with 2, 4 bay Drobos. One Drobo is used for iTunes library (shared) and other file sharing actions and the second Drobo is the Time Machine disk. This set up was very easy to do and has been working awesome now for about 2 years. The only time I have restarted the machine is due to firmware updates. It just sits quietly in the corner doing its job
