Where is my Keychain data kept?

In an attempt to delete a keychain with a wrong password, I deleted all of my keychains. I have a backup, so it seems to me that I should be able to take a copy of the keychain data from the backup and replace the deleted data, but I don't know where it's kept. Is this possible, and, if so, where do I look? Thanks.

Peter,
Your keychain (for your personal account) is stored in the Library:
Users/<accountname>/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
(you might have more than one keychain here)

So, perhaps try just moving these files to
Library/Keychains/ on your machine (that's the Library in your user folder), and then log out and back in for changes to take effect?

Hi Caleb,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Perhaps I did more than just delete my keychains, because that didn't work. When I open Keychain Access now, the only one there is for my Airport base station, which is a System keychain. When I open Mail and click Get Mail, it asks for my password every time, even though I have checked to remember the password in Keychain. My external drive was mounted at the time, so maybe its keychain was deleted, too. I guess the worst case scenario is that I will have to reenter all my passwords.

Cheers, Peter

Hi again Caleb,

This from another post:...the post by Moche resolved my Keychain issues! He posted-"Open application Keychain Access. Do you see a keychain named 'login'? If not then double click file 'login.keychain' found in ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain. You should now see it as one of your keychains.
This worked. Thanks again.

Cheers, Peter
