Carrier update "ATT 14.2" on iPhone 4S. What are the details?

Recently my AT&T iPhone 4S received a carrier update to version "AT&T 14.1". [You can see what your version is when you click on SETTINGS, then GENERAL, then click ABOUT...scroll down and look for "Carrier".] Version 14.1 brought the amber, weather and goverment alerts. See link: http://blogs.att.net/consumerblog/story/a7790136

But today, when my phone was connected to iTunes, it said I have a carrier update and asked me if I wanted to update and install. I did that. But I did not understand what the details were. When I clicked on "Learn more"...I was brought to a link that did not help me. Link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1970

When I contacted AT&T, they told me to contact Apple. When I called Apple, they told me to contact AT&T. Then they did not know what I was talking about.

Anyone know details about the update? Thanks in advance!

I have the latest iOS for iPhone 4S (version 6.1.3) and I am using the latest version of iTunes for my MacBook Pro (11.0.4 (4)).

So they doing the ye'old monkey in the middle routine, eh? Well I'm not a monkey and neither is anyone else(!)

AT&T is saying they aren't doing it, and that if my phone decides to crap out that I will have to see if Apple will replace my phone. But she said even though they have no involvement nor allowance with this carrier version update, that it is between apple and the federal agency requesting these updates, that she will document and send the complaint to the people at AT&T that are working on carriers updates with them.

I also stated to the rep, that there is some chatter stating the updates are being implemented by AT&T. The rep denied any such information.

I also asked the rep, if there has been any customer complaints or concerns brought to AT&Ts attention today in regards to Carrier Version Updates? The reps response was "no, this is a first"

What I am experiencing: LTE or WiFi: these OTA Forced updates are unexpected and with out advanced notice.

This is the second time I've witnessed this while the device is in use that this OTAFU comes through. There is a data cap on bandwidth, so I think the OTAFU is hogging bandwidth and other resources, which in turn is making any other apps in use choke for bandwidth and other resources while the update is taking place.

I still have the Government Alerts with the 14.2 CU.

I do believe this is IOL and Data Redundancy which is causing technical debt to grow exponentially out of control.

Amber Alerts are great, useful, and helpful - but there is an App for that, a text message, and an email alert system.

Emergency Alerts are great, and useful - BUT there are many apps and signals for that as well as being broadcasted on TV, Radio, FiOS, And Cable.

Simply all too much(!) When is enough enough?

What is the backup system to the government emergency alerts system, if we are unable to access any form of electronic communications?

I have read all the entries for this topic. The same thing happened with my iPhone 4 - had the alerts, now no alerts. I'm glad they are gone. I already have an App that alerts me to weather emergencies and I don't want alerts from the President. He is on TV every day. I don't want him on my phone, too.

The carrier alerts are related to the WARN (Warnings, Alerts, and Response Network) Title VI (Commercial Mobile Service Alerts) (CMAS) under the Homeland Security Act. The purpose was for the FCC to bring the Dir. for Domestic Nuclear Detection and the Under Sec for Science and Technology together to develop a strategy and plan for alerting citizens about terrorist threats from weapons of mass destruction.

The FCC's role is to set up the rules of engagement for carriers that ELECT to participate in the program. If my carrier, AT&T, can elect to participate in the program, then I should be able to elect to receive the alerts - all of them including alerts from the President.

Apple, Inc. my suggestion is that when your developers code "Government Alerts" into the iOS software, they add a "cancel" and "not now" option with the "OK" option and that should make everyone happy. Please stop telling your customer service reps and others representing you that this is a federal law and there is nothing we can do to stop it which is inappropriate and inaccurate.

The following link has the voluntary language issued by Homeland Security: http://transition.fcc.gov/pshs/services/cmas.html

I think the warnings are great. If you don't like them, you can always turn them off. It's at the bottom of notifications.

I have an ATT iphone 4s and a verizon iphone 5 from work. I have the 14.2 update now and I am not getting alerts on my att iphone even though I have them turned on. My verizon iphone has been going off all afternoon because we have tornados and floods currently hitting new england. Not a beep from my att phone.

So 14.2 broke my ability to get NOA alerts on my iphone 4s apparently.

14.2 broke my iPad (3rd Gen). I was no longer able to use 3G/4G or LTE. Only way to get connected was WIFI. Tried power cycling the unit (power off/power on). Tried force shutdown. Called AT&T. On the phone for 1.5 hours. I mentioned the carrier update, Tiers 1 and 2 had no clue as to what I was talking about. Transferred me to Apple. Explained to Apple that it was a 3G/4G/LTE connectivity issue and they said it was an AT&T issue. Since I have Apple Care+, they replaced the iPad.

Got the iPad and when the Carrier Update message came on, I declined the update. I won't fall for that twice.

Have you figured out how to fix this? I got a number of alerts on my ATT iPhone 4s under the 14.1 update, but since the 14.2 update I haven't gotten any, so I have the same problem as you. I've tried searching for an answer, but your post is the only one mentioned.
