How to hide my network name

Hello. I just need some help with hiding my network so people won't see it when they view the list of network names

on their computers. I'm using a portable router and I'm wondering how I can hide that router's network name. I tried

Airport utilities , when Mac users mentioned about, but it didn't help. Also, is there a way to hide my

computer's name as well? Thanks.

Ignoring for the moment the question of whether it is a good idea, here's what Apple's help for AirPort Utility (6.x) says:

Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.

Select the device you want to set up, and then click Edit. Enter the password if necessary.

Click Wireless, and then click Wireless Options.

Select the “Create hidden network” checkbox.

That's assuming that your "portable router" is an AirPort Express (or Extreme). If it is another brand, check the manual or help for that brand.
