Canoscan LiDE 210 won't work on my macbook pro

Can't get my scanner to work on my macbood pro, OSX 10.8.4. I've downloaded the driver for the scanner and the MP Navigator EX 5.02. MPNav won't even open. LIsts only a few Canon products supported. EXTREMELY frustrating.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Although CanonUSA provides a matrix of supported scanners under Mountain Lion, it says 10.8. --- not specifically any later version. If you look closer at the drivers for the LiDe 210, they were last updated in July 2012 -- certain no assurance that the MP Navigator or drivers will still work.

Hamrick Software offers VueScan scanner software that according to them, will drive your scanner without any Canon drivers. If you are running 10.8.4, be sure to download the 64-bit version. Have your scanner plugged in before launching VueScan.

Good luck!

The LiDE 210 works fine on 10.8.4 with MP Navigator EX v4.0.3. Your issue will be that you have downloaded a version of MP Navigator that does not support the LiDE 210.

The only issue with MP Navigator on 10.8 is that the application is not digitally signed, meaning that Gatekeeper will not let you install it. So you need to right-click (or Control-click) on the installer after you have loaded the DMG to install the application.

And to use MP Navigator you must install the v17.7.1a scanner driver for the LiDE 210.

Also, the ICA driver for the LiDE 210 is available from Apple. So with the ICA driver installed, you will be able to scan with Image Capture or Preview.

Have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.8.4 with Canoscan LIDE 5.0.1.4 for Mac OS X

Flat documents scan fine, but when using the film adaptor to scan old 35mm slides, strange things happen. I unmount film from cardboard frame and position film emulsion down in adapter on glass with toothpick because there are no sprocket hole mounts to register in adaptor. Close adaptor lid and scan.

The preview scan shows the full image, but the finished scan into Photoshop crops off the top edge of the image and displays part of the sprocket holes at the bottom of the image frame.

Also, one scan may appear as positive image, then next scan may randomly be in negative. Photoshop enables me to "Invert" negatives as needed, but its still a weird anomaly.

I last used this film adaptor a year or two and some software updates/upgrades ago with no problem. Any suggestions?

I cannot find any reference to the LiDE210 supporting a film scanning unit. The lid looks too thin to fit an LED array for a back-light.

I have the LiDE200 and it has no support for a film scanning unit, like my MP990 does.

So is this film unit an accessory that came with the LiDE210 or a 3rd party product?

I should have clarified I was referenceing the software as Canoscan LiDE 5.0.1.4 for Mac OS X. It appears to be the most current version.

The scanner is a Canon model CanoScan LiDE 600F. After posting, I found and installed the current scanner driver. Same results with a subsequent scan attempts. The preview displays the full picture, but finished horz. image is clipped at the top and shows part of the sprocket holes at the bottom of the frame.

But after teasing the piece of film into the most extream position against the bottom edge of the holder with a toothpick I was able to trial and error some full frame images with minimal clipping. I suspect it is a software problem. Probably some focusing or alignment algorythm

The film adapter is a 13"X4" device that lays on the larger glass, a cable plugs into a port labled FAU and the device engages two magnetic latches to exactly position the film adapter. The adapter itself has a hinged lid and seems to be disigned for a 35 mm strip of film, not an idividual cut frame. The larger scanner lid is double hindged, so it can close over the film adapter when its mounted on scanner bed.
