You have already tried step two below, don't bother with step one, try the other things I mention

    Troubleshooting

    Restarting your device

    1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
    2. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears then let go.
    3. Place the phone into recovery mode by doing this

Backup, reset, restore on icloud or itunes or restore as new.

If this fails to fix the problem make an appointment and visit and Apple store or an authorised service provider

Well, the screen is supposed to go dark if you bring the phone to your ear. That is the function of the proximity sensor. However, once you remove it from the side of your head, the screen should come back on.

Do you have a case/screensaver on the device? If so, try removing the case for a test and see if this changes the behavior. If that doesn't help, try removing the screensaver. How long does it take for you to get the screen back to be able to use the device again? Are you using something else to hang up the call?

If the screen still will not come back on with the case, or if you do not even have a case/screen saver, then you could have a bad proximity sensor. You can make an appointment with Apple at the Genius Bar and have the device checked.

    Hi All,

I have a same problems.. Just release it after upgrade ios 6.1.3.

btw, i'm using iphone 3gs, At first, i thought its a hardware issues, but it also happend to my other iphone 4S.

So, by review in all forum it seems, apple ios not fixed the issue in ios 6.1.3 for the issue of proximity sensor not working.

How or any chances to get Apple to fix the bugs? as you can see apple is already to make a move for new IOS.

which will be unfair to people who upgrades at version 6.1.3 for iPhone 3Gs.

note: i did all the restore/backup etc. it doesnt work...

If you did the restore from backup, did you do a restore as a new device. While I do not have an iPhone 3GS, I'm not aware of the iOS upgrade "breaking" the proximity sensor. I do, however, have 2 iPhone 4S in the house here and neither have exhibited the behavior you describe.

Do you have cases on these phones. Read my earlier post and try all of those suggestions. If the sensor still does not work after that, then you have a hardware problem, and would need to take the phone in for evaluation.
