Mail only sending through one account

I use Mail to manage 3 email accounts. 1 is my Mac email, 2 & 3 are gmail accounts. All of a sudden no matter what I do, everytime I send an email it says it came from account #3. Under preferences and composing I have "Send new messages from:" set to "account of selected mailbox." But if I wanted to send an email from account #2 I would highlight that account, click on compose new message, even double check that account #2 was listed next to "from" and click send. But then that email goes out with account #3 listed as where it came from. And if somebody replies, it comes back in through account #3. Any thoughts of how to fix this? Thanks!

I know this is a really old thread but for anyone having an issue still this is what worked for me. Go to settings/mail/accounts/choose your email account here/account/SMPT/OTHER SMPT SERVERS/Turn the server switch off.

Recently gmail had been kicking back all my emails sent from my yahoo account replying with a DMARC error message.

Upon reading into this I realized all of my emails appeared to be getting sent from one account. By turning the smpt server switch off for that particular account it solved my problem.

I hope someone finds this useful. Google is like a bratty little kid who gets everything it wants. When they say jump...you guessed it...everybody has to jump. I miss the good old netscape days.lol

I looked through the trouble shooting and didn't see anything that helped. Mail manages 3 accounts. I am able to receive emails just fine for all 3 accounts, both on my MacBook Pro and on my iPhone. The problem I'm having is that every time I send an email is sends from one of the accounts. This is true on both devices. I've also double (and triple) checked the preferences and whether I check "send new messages from account of selected mailbox" or from a specific mailbox, messages still are sent from the same account as mentioned above. This is really irritating as one email is personal and the other is used for a small business. Everytime people reply to an email is goes to the business email address because that's what Mail keeps sending them from.

The only other clue I have is in the Mail Connection Doctor. The first 4 items have green dots and the last 2 have red dots. The first 4 are "Business ... Google IMAP", "Gmail ... Good IMAP", "iCloud ... iCloud IMAP", "smtp.gmail.com:s ... SMTP" and the last 2 with red dots are "smtp.gmail.com:s ... SMTP" and "smtp.me.com:bar ... SMTP" These last 2 say "Trying to log in to this SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct." But like I said, I'm able to send and receive from all 3 accounts, the problem is in which address Mail is saying it's sending from. Any other thoughts? Thanks!

I encountered similar problems with just two mail accounts:Gmail and Yahoo.

If you just press send, one can never be certain which account has been used to send a message

I wonder if it is possible to que the mails in the Outbox so I would have a chance to
see if they are really sent from the intended account

As it is now, the mails are sent as soon as I press Send.

I believe I found the resolution to this. Under Mail - Preferences, the outgoing mail server (SMTP) must be set for each individual account. Mine was originally all set under one, making all messages send from the same address. I had to re-enter my password in the settings for some of my accounts since there was login issues, but all in all it seems to be working.
