Mic on in-ear headphones still doesn't work under OSX 10.8.4

Earlier this year Apple published a support document acknowledging a bug in OSX 10.8.x that prevented the mic on their in-ear headphones from working with mac (there's a reference to the story here). This is very frustrating, as I have a MacBook Pro that heats up fast, putting the fans on all the time, making Skype calls impossible working form the internal mic. For years things were fine using the in-ear headphones for their external mic. But OSX 10.8 nixed that.

Apparently, OSX10.8.3 had a fix for the bug. Well, I'm running OSX 10.8.4 and I still can't get my Macbook Pro to recognise or use the in-ear headphones' external mic.

Anyone had this problem and still have it? Anything I can do?
