please can any one help me with a link where I can upgrade my powerbook G4 10.4 to 10.5, learnt it can be done online for free.

It can't be. You need to buy a Mac OS X 10.5 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay.
If you're using a MacBook and not a PowerBook G4, skip 10.5 and buy 10.6 from the online Apple Store.

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
