Syncing Problems with iPhone 4 and Mac

Until recently, I could plug my iPhone 4 into my Mac and sync Contacts. Now I can't, and I don't know why. My phone is running iOS 6.1.3 and my Mac is running OS 10.8.4. It used to work flawlessly and effortlessly. Now it doesn't. Maybe something happened with an operating system change. Maybe something happened when I switched it to syncing in iCloud instead of with my Mac. But my Mac is my hub with all of the most current info, so that's where I want it to be. I don't know if I need to change the settings on the phone, the computer, or both. I need help. And I need step-by-step instructions, as you can't assume that I know what you know. But, if someone out there knows the answer, please share it. Thanks!

when you sync contacts with icloud, itunes stops doing it because this causes duplicate entries

Xkandrux, I'm trying to sync between my iPhone and my Mac. iCloud is not wanted. Not needed. Not part of the equation. If you know the answer to my problem, please share it.

well, u mentioned icloud on your post... make sure that contacts are off under settings ->icloud is the first thing that you want to check

I just checked. iCloud is turned off for Contacts (and everything else, like Mail, Calendars, etc.) on the iPhone.

ok, in itunes, with your phone plugged in, go into the summary page (click on the phones name on the left side of itunes, if you dont see the bar, go into view and show side bar) when at th esummary page, click on info on the top of the screen and make sure that sync contacts and sync calendars are both checked

System Preferences>iCloud...are contacts checked here? If so, that's why.

Xkandrux, I checked and everything (Sync Contact, Sync Calendars, Sync Mail Accounts and Sync Safari bookmarks) is checked.

wjosten, everything on that page was checked. Now, nothing is checked, except for Back to My Mac and Find My Mac. I ran a sync after unchecking all those boxes, but that had no effect. So I'm going to reboot both devices and see if that has a positive effect. Please stand by... 😉
