My bluetooth has disappeared from my macbook air - any ideas on how to reinstall or locate it?

I came home, there was an update for my mac, after installing it my bluetooth capability disappeared. There is no bluetooth icon in system and the icon at the top of the home page indicates that bluetooth is unavailable. Any ideas?

I am NOT amused at all. I have had nothing but problems with my Macbook Pro Retina (2nd gen). NONE of the fixes stay fixed for more than a few weeks. I am ****** that Apple has hobbled my important tool making it useless to me.

Hi, I agree with you totally. One problem Apple has with its support is that they allow searching within the Apple environment and will send you to articles that are 5 6 or even 7 years old. I have tried to get them to allow OS and version and the current year to be included searches. That way it guides me to pertinent up to date help. They need to date and stamp every help article with the year also. What worked in 2013 will not work today.

Hi Lisa.lisajane.jane,

Welcome to the Support Communities!

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with bluetooth after updating your software.

Have you restarted your computer? That is usally a good first troubleshooting step after a software update.

If you are still unable to pair your bluetooth devices to your computer, then please follow the instructions below:

  4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Note
: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

Resetting NVRAM / PRAM

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  6. Release the keys.

You can read more details by clicking on the two links above, but these would be two good troubleshooting steps to try.

I hope this information helps ....

Have a great day!
