no sound on TV

Resolution

If there is no audio coming from your TV or AV receiver when using your Apple TV, including sound effects, you should first confirm the following:

• The volume on your TV, or AV receiver (whichever is used for audio from Apple TV), is not muted, and is at a high enough volume.
• The Sound Effects option, under the Audio & Video menu on your Apple TV, is not set to Off. To verify:
  
  1. On your Apple TV, go to Settings > Audio & Video.
  2. Navigate to the Sound Effects option and make sure its set to On

If there is still no audio when using your Apple TV, try changing the Audio Output from your Apple TV:

1. Make sure you have the latest Apple TV software update installed.
2. On your Apple TV, navigate to Settings > Audio & Video.
3. Navigate to the Audio Output option.
4. Push the Select button on your Apple Remote to switch to 16 bit.
5. Verify that audio is now coming from your TV or AV receiver.

I just did the latest software update and my sound disappeared. I went to settings, audio and switched audio output from 16bit to auto, instantly the sound came back. I hate it when apple do updates, it causes faults for some users and they cover their ears and give the most basic responses like "have you checked mute"

Same problem did everything suggested and still no sound.

having same problem. its brand new apple tv.

I also have video but no audio with my brand new apple tv. Tried everything suggested. Still no sound. I tried airplay but there is an over one second delay between sound and picture so that is unworkable.
