My iphone restored ok from an icloud back up but the actual phone number is not working. The correct number is entered in "settings" but cannot send or receive calls. please help.

I wish someone somewhere would have simply said that I need to go to my phone service provider and get a new SIM card. That would have saved lots of time, confusion and phone calls. Thanks, though.
If someone knows of a way to activate the actual phone without a new SIM card, let me know. Can the phone operate without a SIM card?
If you "operate" you mean recieve and place calls, no.
