Q: logic nodes and logic plugins

Before I purchased logic express, I downloaded a bootleg copy of logic pro to try the program out before making the purchase (I was new to logic).  I enjoyed it so I went with express (much cheaper at the time).

 

In logic pro, I played around with logic nodes a little, but didn't use them much.

 

My first question is - how useful and effective is it using logic nodes?  Is it worth another $200 or is it a gimmick?

 

Secondly, I noticed that some software instruments or plugins that were in logic pro were not in express (like the steinway piano).  What exactly is missing from logic express that is in logic pro?   Is there a way to purchase the different instruments and plugins without purchasing logic pro?

    Logic Pro has several more Software Instrument plugs, and more FX plugins. You can find the detail here, but note that this document refers to "Logic Studio", which included a number of additional applications and additional (Soundtrack Pro) content.

    You cannot separately obtain the Instruments and plugins without buying Logic Pro since they are embedded within the application.

     

    Logic Pro includes loops and sampler instruments in all of the JamPacks. The JamPacks used to be available separately, but I believe that they have been discontinued.

     

     

    Gaining access to Logic Node would not be my prime reason to 'upgrade', though it can be useful.

    I don't think the Logic "node" is supported anymore.

    Yes, but is it being distributed with the current release from the app store, I thought I read where it wasn't.

     

    Perhaps I musunderstood that it will never be updated to 64-bit.

    I have Logic Studio, running 9.1.5 not touching/upgrading a system that working perfectly well.

    I know what you mean ;-) I did my experiment on a 'testbed'.

     

    I have just done an Appstore download of LP9.1.8... no sign of the Logic Node application with this version.

     

    However, the Node app is distributed as part of the LP9.1.8 updater: extract using Pacifist and away you go.

    There's a certain Logic to that... users who may have previously used the node mode will still see an upgrade to the latest release of the main software, new users will never know it existed unless they've read about it or seen it being used. Which means it will probably disappear in the near future.

    Just curious, what is VEP? Did Nodes work with MS? so what now for additional processing power, now that LPX does not support?
