Ipod touch 5 headphone jack not working please help?

I have tried with multiple pairs of earbuds/ headphones. Either there will be audio in the left, or right, but usually never at the same time unless you twiddle with the headphone plug in. Sometimes there's no audio. I only got the ipod in December, so naturally I'm concerned that there's a problem.

If anyone has experienced anything like this, your help would be greatly appreicated. Also any help on how to fix it/ what I should do about it would be further appreicated.

Thanks so much!!

iPod touch (5th generation), iOS 6.1.2

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.

Try the following to rule out a software problem

- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost

Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup

- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack. If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost

thanks so much.

I am in Canada (aka NB) and Staples will take it back if I have the box. Once it worked, for downloads, etc., I didn't keep the box.

I have a feeling I will have a problem without the box.

Time will tell, I guess. I tried the suggestions and it made no difference and frankly if a brand new ipod isn't working on week 1, it shouldn't be kept.

Now I will have to delete everything. grrrrrrr
