How are you trying to add files??

You cannot add them to the TM backup?

TM owns the sparsebundle and you should not add files to any sparsebundle.. do not even attempt to.

You can create a new directory in the Time Capsule and copy files to that.. as long as you have turned on file sharing and give correct access permissions.

Mixing data and backups does have consequences though.

See Q3 here.

Open the disk in finder.. and create a directory.. if you cannot do it.. make sure no other computer in the network has the disk mounted.

If you don't have full permissions to access the TC disk make sure you do a reset and leave the TC at default with TC password allowing full disk access.

Also mount the disk manually if it doesn't work any other way..

In finder use Go in the top menu, connect to server.

Type in the address.. AFP://TCname or TCIPaddress.

If the disk will not mount factory reset.

Don't forget Finder in Mountain Lion is defaulted to local disks only.. open preferences and make sure you can see all network resources.. just tick everything.

Hi thanks for your help

But I am still no further on I managed to partition the airpot time capsule but can only see the 2 partitions when time machine try’s to back up and time machine backs upon one then the other

And I cannot see the partitions at any other time

What I am trying to do is to be able to back up 1 imac and airbooks (not at the same time)

Also have a couple of folders with music and books etc that we can all see and use

I have looked on here and the web and not yet been able to find any thing which starts me in the direction I need to go

The item can’t be moved because AirPort Time Capsule can’t be modified
