Left speaker not working

Left speaker of my macbook pro is not working.On accessing system preferences,the volume control is in the middle.Moving it towards left speaker,no sound comes.Any suggestions??

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405

Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

If this does not help, contact Apple.

For that might stumble upon this:

System Preferences>Sound>Input and make sure that "Use ambient noise reduction" is unchecked. This just fixed it for me.

i have the same problem and i checked the articles and it doesnt say this will solve speakers problems ! are you sure of that ?
