Hello all,
I would like to create a Sparse Image. Have done it numerous times, but since (give or take) a couple of months I'm not able to do so. (please note: 2 different iMacs, both brand new, totally updated.
I would like to create a 20 GB on an externa HD that has still 1.5 TB of free space.
I keep getting the mssage: Can't creat (name sparse image) File too big.
Can anybody help me out? Thanks !

What is the format of the volume to which you're trying to save?

MS Dos Fat 32.
Used this format all the time in the past...but my Sparse is much bigger now. Don't know if that's sheer coincidence, but I can't create it.
FAT32 allows a maximum file size of 4 GB. You may be able to create the disk image as a sparsebundle, rather than a sparseimage.
Just tested it on Mac OS Journaled as well. That worked...
So with just one question I guess you solved it! 😉

I think I will just reformat my disc (will take all night to copy all files but then I will have 2 backup discs both on Mac OS Journaled).
