Flickering problems with an external monitor hooked up to a 21.5 I Mac

I have a two week old I Mac that I have hooked up to an external monitor VIA a thunderbolt cable into the DVI port on monitor. When the I Mac first was plugged into the Acer monitor, It recognized it, and it was formatted correctly. Now when I reboot, if the Acer is connected, my I Mac will not stop flickering from a blue screen to my desk top image. I have already had the I Mac looked at by certified Mac techs. They found no problem with the computer. The issue must be with the monitor. I need a second monitor for work, that is why I purchased a new Mac. Why am I having this issue? Do I need a different cord? Please help.

It has a VGA and DVI HD port. It is an Acer X203H bd. 09' model. Do I need a converter from Apple? I cannot currently see the settings since I cannot run through this I Mac. My Mac Book Pro could run it, but I don't have a cable. The new I Mac picked it up right away. We synced and color balanced just fine during set up phase. It worked for a day or so. Then I shut down for the night. Next morning the blinking began.
