Can I use a "T" shaped charger?

The charger to my A1370 MacBook Air just recently frayed out. I'm a bit catious of buying another "L" shaped one, so I'm wondering if a "T" shaped one would be a good subsitute and which model of it to buy.

No the older MagSafe chargers had the T shaped end. The cord came straight out of the magnetic head instead of at 90°.

To the OP. Yes it is ok to use the T shaped AC adapter as long as it is the correct or larger wattage for your model mac.

The "L" shaped one is called a MagSafe Power Adaptor. The "T" shaped one is a MagSafe 2 Power Adaptor. They are not interchangeable.

Actually, the newer one is the MagSafe 2 as shown here:

The newer Air uses MagSafe 2 and the older uses MagSafe.

_________

As this shows, the MagSafe 2 is the "T" shaped one and is not compatible with the older MagSafe:

All of this confirms what I first posted.

Yes and the older T shape adapter use the same exact connection to the notebook. Sorry but please check your facts. I have said this now 3 times. All the Air models, except for the newest released a couple of Weeks Ago, use the MagSafe adapters Not the MagSafe 2. If the OPs Air has a frayed cord it surely could not be one of the newest Air models as they are all only weeks old.

First of all, you said "all the air models, except for the newest released a couple of weeks ago, use the MagSafe adapters, not the MagSafe 2." That is incorrect, as shown here:

MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) - Technical Specifications

This spec shows that last year's MacBook Air also used the MagSafe 2.

Anyway, that's not important for the OP's question. What is important is that the new MagSafe 2 ("T" shaped) charger cannot be used with your MacBook Air that had a MagSafe ("L" shaped) charger.

Apple has documented that in this page:
