Q: Does iMatch provide updated versions of damaged songs?

I recently purchased iMatch.  One CD I had copied to my library had one damaged song, a little skipping at the end.  When I viewed the song listings for the album I have a cloud icon with an arrow next to every song except the damaged one.  I thought iMatch would offer a download of a better quality version of the damaged song.  Is it supposed to do that or not?  If so, how do I get it?

If it cannot recognize the song, it will not match it.  It sounds like the damage is significant enough, that this is the case.

Thanks for the reply.  In my opinion the damage is extremely minor.  About 10 seconds of the song skips at around the 4:00 mark of a 4:33 length song.  If that small amount renders the song unrecognizable I don't think it will repair anything at all.

You can get some additional information this way:  See this article:

    iTunes Store: Troubleshooting iTunes Match

Check the section entitled: "Some songs appear to be missing from iTunes Match", and then check the "Check iCloud status" section of that article.  From there, you can see if the song was matched, or, if not, what its status is.

    When I click

    View > View Options

it produces this  in a box:

The ability to select how to sort albums (Title, genre, etc)

A check box to Group Compilations

A slide scale to seelct artwork size

There is no place to enable icloud status??????

    Check iCloud Status

Check to see the iCloud status of your songs. Choose View > View Options and enable "iCloud Status". iCloud status will help you to determine whether or not a song was purchased from the iTunes Store, matched, uploaded, or ineligible for upload. Items may not be eligible for upload if:

    • Your computer is not authorized for playback for that item.

Control click on the row that shows "Name", "Time", etc. here:

Thank you.  I discovered that it's important to be working from the library's "songs" menu and I was in the "artists" menu.  So I have a status now.   It shows "uploaded", with no icloud icon indicating it can be downloaded from the cloud.  I'm learning here and appreciate your help.  What does an "uploaded" status mean?

It means it couldn't be matched and the song was uploaded as is.  You don't see a cloud by it, since it is locally available on the computer.  If you deleted it, you'd then see the cloud, but you'd only be playing/download the exact one you currently have.

    Amplifying imp68's response:

    See http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

That contains this information, which expands a bit on imp68's answer:

I appreciate all of the information.  Out of all of the music I copied from CDs there was only one damaged song.  It looks like, delete and purchase is the solution on this one.  Thanks again to all.
