I just tried to update my whatsapps and was told that I need to update to iOS 5 .I just updated what was available to iOS6 and ca't seem to see my contacts etc
PLS PLS HELP

What were you syncing your contacts with prior to the update? They should still be there. Sync them back.
Hopefully you were doing backups through iTunes or iCloud prior to updating your software. If so check your settings under iCloud. Make sure everything is turned on and you are signed in. Usually it's simply a settings issue. Good luck.
