Moving library from PC to Synology NAS

My media/audio/mp3s files are on my pc, located at D:\Music

In itunes, that is what it was pointing to for my media location.

I copied the folder Music and all the subfolders, to my Synology NAS.

I then followed this guide, http://www.synology.com/support/tutorials_show.php?lang=enu&q_id=521 ,

How to use Synology NAS as my iTunes Library

But now I am reading that this was not the proper way to do it. I still have my D:\Music directory, but I'm reading guides like this, http://lifehacker.com/5971326/move-your-itunes-library-to-another-hard-drive-in- three-simple-steps , that say I need to "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" , and consolidate the library which in turn will copy or move my library to the nas. I'm confused on which route I should be going, and if I did something wrong.
