Itunes won't let me do either of these to my iPhone (iOS 4.2.1), which I recently got. I am new to Itunes and really apple itself, so please help!

So do I need a new one to get the apps, or is there some other way to download apps?
.You will not be able to run newer iOS apps, but you still can choose from well over 60,000 vintage iOS apps.
