What kind of RAM cards does the 4 GB MacBook Pro come with?

Quick question. I am looking at upgrading to 8 GB of RAM on my MacBook Pro that came with 4 GB. I don't really want to bother with opening up my computer until I actually have the extra RAM to install, but I am wondering, before I buy that RAM, will my Mid 2012, 4 GB Memory, Macbook Pro have one 4 GB RAM card and an open slot, or will it have two 2 GB RAM cards?

I am just trying to make sure I don't need to buy two 4 GB cards in order to reach 8 GB.

You need to buy the RAM in MATCHING sets - so you'll need 2 sticks of 4GB RAM. MacBook Pros prefer that both slots are populated with MATCHED pairs.

See the Crucial website and click on the System Scanner to get the correct RAM upgrades for your computer. You do know that you can upgrade to 16GB?

It will have 2 X 2GB cards. So to increase the RAM to 8GBs you will need to replace both cards with 2 X 4GB. As noted they should be installed in pairs for best performance but some have just installed one 8GB card. But I don't really suggest doing that.
