Not directly no.. you can store a movie file on the TC. .but the TC has no player in it and the ATV is not a media player.. it is a streaming device.. it has to connect to itunes to stream.. or airplay.

No, Time Capsule is an Airport Extreme with a hard disk inside. it has no itunes. It has a hard disk on which you can plonk files and access them.. no smarts whatsoever.

Airplay has to run from a computer or ios device that accesses the TC and can use the files or library if you store them there.

That is a plan.. I am not sure it is the best plan.. what application are you going to use to run the music?? If you mean itunes then no.. you may as well leave it on the computer.. photos.. hmm.. again what are you going to do.. move the iphoto library to the TC.. but ipad cannot open it.. so you have to move raw photos.. and store them in an area without backup?? May also not be great plan.. but you need to work it out.. whatever you do.. remember the TC is unsafe place to store files. It is a backup target for Time Machine without any ability to backup itself (other than a manually initiated full disk backup).

Very useful discussion. I have an apple tv and an iMac. If I move the iTunes and iPhoto libraries to time capsule (or another external HD) then I guess I would be able to access photos and music from apple tv, would that be correct?

As long as the computer is still running.. and itunes is able to link to the library on the TC.. but we do not recommend that setup.. you will have continual issues with itunes being unable to find the library..!!

NOTE.. the apple TV is not accessing the files on the TC at all.. it is connecting to the computer.. it is the computer that is connecting to the libraries on the TC. So by moving the libraries you have added yet another device not subtracted one.

You will also not have any backup and Time Machine cannot backup the TC hard disk.. TM is useless for network drives.

Thanks LaPastenague awesome help.  I will use ipad as controller of Apple TV and it will use iTunes.  It can stream all photos and music.  I will load all on the time machine as well but only a copy. In fact I will use it to get all consolidated as my non apple pcs have lots of issues copying stuff to each other but all see the time machine.
