Analogue to digital with Elgato Software

I am considering buying this software through my local Apple store for the purpose of converting my old Hi8 camcoder tapes into iMovie so that I can edit them and eventually create some movie DVD's.

Can anyone provide me with any feedback on this product? Google searching provides info which appears to be positive but I have been caught out before with certain products.

None of the Elgato devices are suitable for what you want to do (capture & edit in iMovie, create a DVD). They create highly compressed H.264 files that you would then have to convert to QuickTime/DV or QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec in order to edit in iMovie.

Better to use your existing ADVC100 to capture directly into iMovie. The ADVC100 converts your analog video directly to DV, preserving as best as possible the original quality of your videos.
