new iPhone restore from old backup and lost new photos

Hi there

I recently got a iphone 5 and from the excitement of seeing Obama in cape town, took pictures of his speech and even recorded my friends shaking his hand and have brief converstaions. Now when i connected the new phone into my mac, itunes requested a restore from old backup. So agreed, not knowing that all the new photos / movies of the US president would be deleted!!!

Can i reftieve them or not. and why doenst Apple provide such informaition to users for new restorations?

Please help!

There is no Apple trap, if you didn't read the instructions.

Those photos are gone since it wasn't backed up.

I can't even explain how I feel right now. My iPhone 7 dropped in the pool water and was in there for less than 5 minutes. One day later the phone wasn't working anymore. I had to go spend money to replace my phone from apple. Once I was setting up the phone I totally forgot I didn't restore my old phone 7. My heart shattered because that phone hadn't been backed up for 2 months and all of my vacation pictures and other pictures were on their and now they are completely gone. Apple should save all these in cases like these. I'm so disappointed. Memories that I won't be able to see are gone forever.

I bought an iPhone 7 128Gb in February and tred to back it up via cloud many times but it woudl not do it because it said there was not enough icloud memory (5 Gb) so I upgraded iCloud to 50Gb and the Backup started but stopped inexplicably (phone not moved from wifi during process and wifi was 100% working) with 150+photos to sync (it said). Would not move past this message and the total iPhone memory usage at that time was less than 50Gb iCloud storage so was adequatew to receive all the iphone data via Backup, so eventually I had to switch to using old-fashined BackUp to PC via Itunes via USB/Thunderbolt cable. On starting, the process looked fine until an "IOS needs updating" message popped up on itunes, which it then proceeded to do. The whole backup and IOS update process took ages (30 minutes or more) and a few Dialogue Box Apple messages popped up on the Itunes screen which I had not ever seen before which I had to "OK" ("Reset carrier settings" I think one was). Anyway it eventually finished but I remember feeling troubled by the time taken and the less than familiar extra messages and extended time taken. Move on a week or so and I noticed that some (but not all) of my valuable photos taken on my iphone in March through to May were missing from the handset (e.g. family wedding and wedding party photos plus holiday photos). The more I looked the more I noticed many photos were missing and so I checked on iCloud.com and saw there is a disparity of 357 photos (i.e. the Icloud.com sync has only 291 in there and the handset has 648 in there). 357 missing photos in other words! The worst thing is that the issing family photos are not in the handset nor my Icloud backup.

I have checked the iTunes backup file date on the PC via AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/Mobilesync and ther is only one file in there from a Backup I made on 8 June (about two weeks after the iOS update/first Ituns Backup process outlined above. The guys at Apple are trying to help me and suggesting I Restore this iphone to that available 8June BackUp, but I am pretty sure I will only get a Backup of the incomplete photo numbers because 8 June Backup took place after the photos went missing. So I have questions please:

- Why is there only one Backup file - what happened to the orginal one done weeks ago? Are the older Backup files written over by the newer ones?

- Why did iCloud backup direct from my iPhoen via wifi stop with 150+ photos to go when there was more than enough iCloud storage available?

- Where have my photos gone? Are they deleted permanently by a failure of the 'BackUp to icCloud' via wifi prcess prcess failure? (one Apple guy said there is an indexing process which is driven by iCloud where it checks how many photos are on teh handset before it commits to backing them up - presumebaly checking it can store the full number. - - He said that it has been known for a corruption in the iOS to cause a problem with indexing and the net result is that the error results in photos being deleted off the iphone. HAs anyone else had expwreince of this?

- Have I lost my 357 photos permanently?

Your considered advice welcomed....

The same thing just happened to me. I came home from vacation, plugged into my computer to sync etc, and I got a pop up notice saying that a backup restore was interrupted and would I like to continue, No further question such as "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO REMOVE ALL NEW DATA" Etc. I lost all my vacation photos. It is now back to a month ago when I set up the phone. I am distraught.

I have an iPhone4. I just got back from a 2.5 week whirlwind trip in Northern Europe and Russia. When I woke this morning, my Contacts were missing. No idea why. I thought I have a brilliant idea and will restore my backup from when I left. Before I did it I read the prompt very carefully 'This will restore only the contacts, calendars, notes, text messages, and settings, not the iPhone firmware.' OK doesn't say anything about photos so I'm good to go. Well to my horror I have lost all my vacation photos. I've spent all day trying to figure out how to recover them. I'm distraught, exponentially.
