wifi 10.8.4

Seen lots of threads about people having problems connecting to or maintaining connection to WiFi following a 10.8.4 upgrade. I've had the problem now for two weeks but just managed to speak to Apple who talked me through clearning out the old System Configuration file, shutting down the Mac, holding down the power button (with power disconnected) for 15 seconds then rebooting and recreating connection to WiFi. This seems to have resolved the problem and internet connection is now faster than ever. Prior to this, I had already deleted all the available WiFi connections (in Network Preferences, Advanced, WiFi) and also deleted Keychain references to my networks in Go, Applications, Keychain Access, System.

No, it was in Preferences. Just been through it again so I can give you the right information:

1. From Menu bar, Go|Computer|Macintosh HD

2. Library|Preferences

3. System Configuration

4. Hold down Ctrl and click on Preferences

5. Get Info

6. In Name & Extension box, add .old to System Configuration file.

7. Shut down system & remove power lead.

8. Hold down power button for 15 seconds.

9. Reconnect power and turn on.

System will create a new SysConfig file without the corruption which may have caused the WiFi problems.

Stauffy2. I am about to leave on holiday so wouldn't have time to create a video (good idea though).

To summarise, there are three steps to this:

1) Clear out all the existing networks by opening the System Preferences icon, Choose Network, Click on Advanced, Choose the WiFi tab and press the - key for all networks in the list. Click OK then Apply.

2) Delete all the passwords associated with your networks. Choose Go from the top left menu bar. Click on Applications, choose Keychain access, choose System from the left hand side list then remove anything on the list on the right hand side.

3) Follow the detailed instructions in my second post.

I hope this clears it up a bit for you. Good luck.

I've tried this now numerous times. My internet always reconnects without asking for a password, and I'm still getting broken connectivity? Do you use the apple icon, and choose shutdown? Do you just press the power off button? What might expect when powering back up? Do I need to end the keychain access and chrome? Do I turn the wifi completely off?

At first I thought I did it wrong because I wasn't unplugging and holding the power button long enough? Still having issues. 😟
