On a windows phone, a SPB Bachup software, allowed you to back up your calendar and contacts onto your cell phone. If you made 100 changes, you could back up to your cell. If there was a problem, you restored from your i5 to your i5, exc cloud and itunes,

On a windows phone, a software package, SPB backup, allowed you to back up your calander and contacts to your cell phone. If you had entered multiple entries, and were still on the road, you could back up calander and contacts to your cell phone, and if there was a subsequent problem, you could simply restore from your cell phone to your cell phone. I am fully aware of icloud, as well as itunes back ups, both of which I find unsatisfactory, how can I back up my i5 calander and contacts to my i5, and restore from there if necessary??

Thanks

Jeff

You have no direct access to partition your iPhone.

The Windows function is a variation of the restore point mechanism which creates a sparse bundle on your drive.

It's also a constituent element as to why that OS take up so much space.

And as anyone would tell you backing up to the same drive/location leaves your data in danger if the storage devise fails or gets corrupted .

It's always preferable and safer to back up to another drive/location.

Apple provide you with the option to backup to your computer and/or iCloud (subject to a cap of 5GB free) as a much safer method.

I am looking for a third party backup solution, but specifically to be able to back up my calander and contacts from ny i5 to my i5 cell phone itself. I know all the disadvantages, and I do backup to my computer via itunes when in the office. I do not want to use the icloud. I am looking for an equivalent product for the iphone as in windows with the SPB backup software.

The trouble with icloud is, you need to have a wifi connection. The trouble with itunes is you need to be by your computer. If you are on the road and have made numerous changes to your calander during the day, and want to back it up, you cannot use itunes nor the icloud. If you go to SPB site, you will see there is a SPB backup, which when installed on your windows phone, allows you to backup your calanders, contacts and settings to your windows cell phone itself. I am looking for the equivalent for the i5??

ICloud will use mobile communication GPRS/3G or LTE to push notification and sync Calendar/AddressBook over air automatically.

You can also set poling frequency un settings/mail, contacts , calendars,

It does use data allowance but a typical calendar or address modification is only a few tens of KB.

Wifi is NOT required.

If you are out of range of a mobile mast the phone will pole and make the mods as soon as in range.

Email well if you have an imap service it syncs with the server anyway.

MS Exchange is synced via ActiveSync over air (Apple have licensed this from MS)

What i think you are confusing is back up and sync services.

Again refer to above Apple does not support partitioning or creating a sparse bundling/Zip file on an factory set IPhone .

You and other App developers do not have access to the file directory on stock iOS devices so how/where would you find the file anyway ?

Apple have included sync services and Activesync conduits such that the main calendar and address book files remain on your home computer/company server.

This also adds to security as the iOS device can be remotely wiped if misplaced using the find my iPhone app or via iPhone configuration tool in OSx Server or by removing the Exchange PST info within Windows.

Listen, there is no doubt an argument for all your reasoning. BUT, you are not hearing me. Despite all the available solutions, I want to back up my calander, contacts and settings, on my iphone i5, to my iphone i5.This is possible on a windows phone, on SPB Backup. Can somebody please give me a similar option for my iphone i5, without all the alternatives you are suggesting!!!!!

(edit - reread initial post)

You want to backup your iPhone contacts to your iPhone?

Can't think of any reason this would be needed or even wanted.
If you sync contacts via iCloud (whcih syncs via wifi/cell, not wifi only) then iCloud is current if your iPhone crashes.

The argument against backing up to your iPhone to your iPhone is that if the iPhone crashes and you need to resrtore it, the backup is gone.

On a windows phone, a SPB Bachup software, allowed you to back up your calendar and contacts onto your cell phone. If you made 100 changes, you could back up to your cell. If there was a problem, you restored from your i5 to your i5, exc cloud and itunes,
