My daugther knock the new imac off our desk - cracked screen. Any idea as to what the repair will run? My understanding is the LCD is fused to the glass screen. I will not try this repair.
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), 21,5 inch (late 2012)
The display is not fused to the glass screen. The glass screen is removable with some suction cups. However, if you do this repair on your own or have it done by a non-Apple certified repair shop or person, then you will never get Apple support for it ever again.
The repair cost is around two hours of labor plus the display panel. The latter is expensive, probably close to $400.00, more or less. This assumes no other damage was caused by the tumble.
If it's the new iMac, late 2012, very thin at edges, you are right the LCD panel and the outer glass are fused together. Kappy must be thinking of the pre-late 2012 models. The outer glass is not removable. Only Apple can tell you how much it will be, but it won't be cheap.
To save space and eliminate the gap between the glass and the pixels, Apple opted to fuse the front glass and the LCD. This means that if you want to replace one, you'll have to replace both.

Thanks. It is a late 2012 iMac. Everything I have read the LCD and glass are fused.
Thanks for the help. It is a late 2012 iMac and from what I read the LCD is fused to the glass per WZZZ's link. The comments related to Apple support are duly noted as its new and would like to have the support down the road. I also think the repair is beyond what I would attempt.
Then why not call your local Apple retailer and ask them? We don't know how much the repair cost will be on such a new model (or even older ones.) Apple does not share that information publicly.
