Q: will do it yourself ram upgrade void apple's imac warranties?

Been counseled not to buy ram upgrades from apple when purchasing new 2013 iMac 27".   seems third party purchase after delivery ofn imac is cheaper.

Need to know hown this do it yourself economy affects any warranties apple offers

It won't void the warranty (that is, as long as you don't mangle the slots.) It's meant to be user upgradeable. Get RAM from OWC, macsales.com, if you're in the US or Canada.

You can add RAM to the new 2012 27"; however, the new 21.5" is not user upgradeable - it is sealed. (FWIW, the latest iMac models available are 2012's at this point).

And, absolutely agree with the recommendation of OWC - have been using their RAM in several of my Macs.

I agree with the  other two about OWC but also suggest you check Crucial.com for pricing.  They also offer excellent memory upgrades for Macs.
