2. If you have purchased apps in the past using iTunes in your PC, then you may have backed-up .ipa files. Use them instead. (Make sure that they are bought from your own Apple ID).
Other than this, you have no choices buddy. The device is unsupported now.

You will not be able to run newer iOS apps, but you still can choose from well over 60,000 vintage iOS apps.
The trick is finding them. One way you could try,

Oct 27, 2015 12:43 AM in response to SolverWizby egg1001,Thank you Solverwiz, my youngest daughter broke her heart when she smashed her iPod 3rd gen, all we could afford was a 2nd gen, and we've struggled so much to get ANYTHING that works on it. (Thanks Apple) it's still a beautiful, although virtually redundant peice of tech, but you've helped breathe new life into it.
Sad though that because of this lesson, she's eventually replaced it with an android tablet, which she loves.
