Hey dave41

I would delete the songs on iTunes that have the exclamation marks on them, then go through and try to download the past purchases. Once the file does not show up in iTunes, then it can download the songs again for you.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Is this really the only way to do it? iTunes has somehow "lost" hundreds of my tracks, mostly from CDs as far as I can see, many of which I no longer have! Do I really have to buy all these CDs again to restore the tracks, that will take ages and cost a small fortune, and why did it lose them in the first place?

The tracks are still there on my iPod, but now that's all screwed up as I tried to adjust the volume levels of all the tracks and it only adjusted the ones it hadn't lost, so now my volume levels are all over the place too!
