How do you lock contact information so you cannot accidentally overwrite it (noting that you can edit a contact without pressing "edit")

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Hi, I have same problem with iphone and ipad. It is possible to accidentally change a contacts details without first pressing edit.

Surely it should only be possible to edit a contact by first pressing edit.

Did you ever find a solution to this or is there a setting within restrictions which disallows editing of any description.

accidentily (i.e. without pressing the edit button) changing information afaik is only possible in the "notes" field, because you can type freely in it without having the "edit" button pressed. This information is not synced with other devices. It stays there until the app is Quit and then dissapears, it is not changing the database, only when you click 'edit' and 'done'.

Yes you are correct it is only possible to edit notes without hitting edit but the notes are synced through icloud to all my other devices so an accidental change to a critical note is transferred to all devices making accessing the original correct information impossible.

Apple need to only allow the editing of notes after hitting edit and ideally should have a setting within restrictions to disallow all editing of any contact information without a passcode to make contact information security watertight in my opinion.

    What do you think?

I have submitted an online enhancement request for same following a chat with Apple customer care today.

Impossible to get a sync of these what I call ineffective edits in notes without edit/done.

I can not recreate that. As soon as contcts are quit it is gone and should be gon in your other devices too, but I think it is not even going to the cloud in the first place.

I agree that it would be better if Apple made edit impossible in notes, without the edit button clicked. It is confusing.

Thanks for your help. I did not test as comprehensively as you.

These 'ineffective' notes changes are very disconcerting and undermine confidence in the operating system.

As you said changes in notes within contacts should only be allowed after hitting edit.

    Hopefully Apple will update accordingly.
