How do I download xcode without registering as an apple developer?

I'm trying to download xcode so I can wirte and compile c programs on my Mac. This is for personal use.

I do NOT want to register as an "Apple developer" but every site I've found for downloading xcode requires me to register as an Apple Developer.

Where can I download xcode so I can write and compile c programs without being an Apple developer?

Xcode can be downloaded free of charge from the Mac App Store. Also, if your Mac came with DVDs, Xcode is included in the second OS X DVD or Applications Disc, but note that is an old version.

An old Xcode version may not have the SDKs for the OS X version you have, so you may have problems or even Xcode may not run. As the last options, you can download old Xcode versions from Apple Developer. You don't have to be a paid developer

After reading both of your posts, I found my Snow Leopard disk. I only got as far as reading the instructions on installing Xcode when I realized that everything gets put into /Developer NOT in the normal tree. I already had it on my system! However, "gcc" was unknown because nothing in the install process (or anywhere else) puts the /Developer tree into PATH. So, the system couldn't find the compiler...

Bad installation design...

Thanks though - if you hadn't mentioned that it was on the system disk, I wouldn't have found it!
