google contacts and iphone

Everytime I sync my phone, I get another copy of all of my google contacts added to my phone. For instance I have about 20 entries for Dr. Powell. Anybody know what I am doing wrong here?

Question 2-I no longer have access to a certain microsoft exchange server. All of the contacts that I had are still on my phone. Sync with Outlook did not result in these contacts being copied to my desk top. Any way I can get all of these contacts (about 4000) off my phone? Can I save my contacts as a hard drive item or something similar to the pictures that I am able to cut or copy while connected to my pc?

If you're syncing your Google contacts through iTunes, don't. You should be syncing Google contacts by setting up a dedicated CardDav account on your iPhone for this purpose. Read this article for more information:

If all your contacts you care about are in your Google account, then remove the sync'd version via iTunes (i.e. tell iTunes to stop syncing contacts). Once they are removed, then set up a CardDav account as described in the article.
