trying to sync new Iphone with old iphone and not all the apps went on and all my messages are from 2 years ago

trying to sync my new Iphone5 to old Iphone salesman said everything would transfer over- missing alot of apps. and all my text messages are from 2 years ago. my contacts and pictures did go on . any suggestions?
