card reader question

I am trying to use a Class 10 memory card in the SD card slot on my macbook pro, but it doesn't appear on the desktop. why is that? it works fine with the 27" iMacs in my school's computer lab. thanks!


(PS) i have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Open System Information in the folder "/Applications/Utilities", then select "Card Reader" on the left before the card is plugged in, then aplug the card in and use the key combination <COMMAND> + r to refresh

The 9th line of text shows this is a class 4 card. I THINK the macbook pros can handle up to SDXC byt I was not quickly able to locate that information
