If you are not interested in restoring the content because you intend to give the phone to someone else, then you do not need to worry about backing up.
You will get the message that your phone has been unlocked in the iTunes window after your restore as new.
If you do this and the unlock message does not appear, then the unlcok has still not benn processed and you will have to wait until it has.

Jul 4, 2013 7:09 AM in response to donna0903by donna0903,So the message I got " congratulations your iPhone has been unlocked. To set up and sync this iPhone, click continue"
But the set up and syncing the iPhone I would leave up to my nephew as he would need to use his iTunes to put his personal details in?

Jul 4, 2013 7:30 AM in response to donna0903by FelipeV,Ok. Then you can give it to your nephew and he can set it up by himself. Unplug it from the computer. Have him ccheck to make sure there is nothing of yours on the phone. (there shouldnt be) if there is he can erase it again himself either from the phone or by plugging in to his computer with iTunes.
