I need to do some simple editing, typically just a very few cuts ... but I WOULD like to be able to do Side by Side comparison editing.
Is Express still available, or do I have to use X .... I ASSUME that I can do Side by Side editing with these products?

The only two editing apps currently being sold & supported by Apple are iMovie and FCP-X.
You can find copies of Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro at places like eBay - but those products are considered end-of-life by Apple and are not supported any longer.
What do you mean exactly when you say "side by side comparison editing"?

Either of those apps should be able to do that.

Thanks ... I just downloaded the trial version of X ... the old version of iMovie seemed to be a lot easier to use then the current one. Here's hoping that this old fellow can work with X. 😊

Here's a quick tutorial from Larry Jordan that may be helpful. He trims the clips he wants to show side by side. He could also have down-scaled them to fit by using crop. Just like FCE, you can also adjust size and position numerically; in FCE those adjustments were done in the Motion tab; in FCPX they're found in the Inspector. Have fun.
