My iPhone 4 will only charge if it turned off, why?

I have the same problem ! 😟

Facts:

1. If the iPhone is off, it will automaticall switch back on when charging.

2. Some computer USB do not have enough power to charge iPhone, use the supplied Apple wall power adapter to charge.

From what you are saying, this issue happened right after you plugged in a non-apple charger to charge it?

have you tried connecting it to a different computer? (don't automatically sync if you have itunes on this different computer)

We maybe looking at a possible hardware issue, but you have to isolate it first from being a software issue.

do a reset which no data loss can occur, and if that doesn't work, a restore would be the last step to isolate it from being a software issue.

you need to do a back up before doing a restore, and since you cannot connect it to a computer, icloud back-up would be the best option for you.

My wife's phone has the same issue. From what I have found reading around the interwebs, it as some sort of blown fuse on board. Plugging into a cheapo charger is what I think caused the issue. If anyone finds a place that fixes these, post back here.

Apple chargers are also el cheapo.

If it charges at all this does not look like a problem but an OS feature. Looks like Apple want to push some more control over the user at expense of their peace of mind and money.
